Life at The Funzi Keys hotel is relaxed and many guests do little more than unwind on the wooden deck of the free-form pool with a drink while watching the local fishing dhows sail by. But for more energetic guests it is possible to enjoy sailing, creek fishing, snorkeling, windsurfing and canoeing or perhaps take a boat trip up the Ramisi River or Funzi Creek for an unforgettable glimpse of kingfishers, crocodiles and even dolphins! Funzi Keys is an excellent base for deep-sea fishing and scuba diving in the Pemba Channel, which can be arranged and paid for locally. At Funzi Keys Hotel Lodge, you find a lot of friendly, helpful and efficient staff. The rooms are vast and front onto the Indian Ocean beach and are kept very clean and always restocked with towels. Food is first class, with wide choice for lunch & dinner at time & place that suit you. Breakfast on the sandbar was wonderful & with every choice.

Dining room is airy & with lovely views and the bar well stocked & bar staff knows their stuff.
Evening cruises are very peaceful with plenty of windsurfers, sailing dinghies etc for use by guests. Dress code very relaxed which is good if you are off safari with flight weight limits. Funzi Keys is truly wonderful; you are meet at the airstrip by the manager and transferred by land cruiser through the bush to the resort, then shown to your Banda.
The bands are enormous with a four poster bed and your own Jacuzzi, the bathroom has huge double shower and there are toiletries, sarongs, bathrobes, flip flops, beach hats, beach bags, sun cream etc so you don't need to take any of this with you!. In the Banda there is also a cool box with beer, water and soft drinks which is replenished daily. Outside there are two sun beds and at night a fire is lit on the sand right outside the door.

There are no windows or doors on the bandas, only mesh so in the morning you wake to the sound of the ocean. All meals are served overlooking the Indian Ocean - breakfast is cereal, fruit, bacon & eggs etc. the chef will come and find you during the morning to discuss what you would like for lunch and dinner - he will cook whatever you fancy!
You can do as much or as little as you want - snorkeling, diving, kayaking, river cruises, hobie cats or just lounging on the beach or round the enormous infinity pool, where there is a big fridge where you can help yourself to beers & cold drinks. Round the pool are lots of sun beds and hammocks which are very relaxing (and also a basket full of sun cream. You can wander into the bar anytime day or night and have whatever you like and they will also put wine, spirits etc. in the cool box in your room if you request it.

There is a little sand bar which comes up when the tide is out which is totally secluded and very romantic. You will be taken over there with a bottle of champagne, chocolate brownies and a radio – you only radio Funzi Keys when you want to be collected and they came and pick you up. Every couple of nights there is a beach bbq or dinner round the pool which very lovely. A tip for packing - don't bother with much! Everyone walks around barefoot, even in the bar and restaurant. Dressing for dinner is totally up to you. You move from the beach and straight into dinner and have dinner in your swimsuits and shorts / t-shirts. They are so totally relaxed you can wear what you want. This lodge is luxurious and absolutely wonderful (and all food / drinks / water sports are included.

Funzi Keys is designed to blend unobtrusively with its idyllic beachfront setting and to reflect the influence of the local culture and coastal architecture, the accommodation consists of nine spacious cottages set along the high-water line and constructed of stone and thatch with large netted windows open to the balmy sea breezes. Each of the individually designed rooms has a hand carved king-sized four-poster bed and is furnished with local wooden artefacts and colourful fabrics plus a Jacuzzi with spectacular sea view! All cottages are provided with fans, safes and beach accessories in the oversized bathroom. In front of each cottage are private sitting areas where guests can enjoy a drink and watch the sun go down in total privacy.
