Uganda Mountain Gorillas attract people

from around the world; Gorillas in Uganda are the main reason that Uganda Safari Travel to
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or
Mgahinga Gorilla Park. Recently the Gorillas of Uganda have become celebrities when the Uganda Wildlife Authority introduced them to the world via their “Google Befriend a Gorilla” campaign. Unlike Pandas, Orangutans, Uganda Chimpanzees and
Uganda Mountain Gorillas cannot be found or visited in a zoo anywhere in the world. You can only find Mountain Gorillas in three countries in Africa, Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. About half of the mountain gorillas in the world can be found in Uganda in two spots –
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. What people may not realize is that unlike seeing lions in the wilds of Kenya and Tanzania or searching out Giraffes, Elephants, Warthogs, Crocodiles and Hippos in
Maasai Mara and
Serengeti there are a limited number of visitors allowed to view and visit the Mountain Gorillas of Uganda. Presently there are 8 groups that have been habituated and two more have just about completed their habituation process. (Habituation simply means that the Mountain

Gorillas are used to Human Beings, a process that can take up to two years) There are over 30
Mountain Gorilla Groups in Uganda in total both habituated ones and those who are not. Each Mountain Gorilla group can have a maximum of 8 visitors each day for a period of about one hour.
Uganda Gorilla Groups vary in size from 6 to up to 30 in number. You meet at the appropriate park office, depending which group of gorillas you are tracking – it can be at Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, or Nkuringo. Best have a packed lunch with you, 2 liters of water, hat, tough pants, boots, long sleeved shirt, rain jacket, backpack, insect repellant, lots of batteries, you can get a walking stick locally and the assistance of a
Gorilla porter if need be. At the
Uganda Gorilla tracking orientation you are assigned to your guide who is an expert on the group of gorillas and most often was a part of the gorilla group’s habituation process and visits your gorilla group daily and knows their ways and patterns of movement since gorillas move on a daily basis and build new nests each day.
Tracking Uganda Gorillas time can take up to 8 hours. You cannot just drive up to their location – it can be quite a hike, especially in the Bwindi

Impenetrable Forest. However in spite of a strenuous hike, your surroundings in either Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and or Mgahinga Gorilla Park are simple awesome, Nice breathtaking and beautiful. Not only will you see your Mountain Gorillas up close and personal but also other mammals who call Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park their home. There are birds endemic to the parks, butterflies, chimpanzees, forest elephants, and of course the rugged, scenic beauty you will encounter on your own Gorillas in the Mist experience in Uganda. Some people cannot get enough of the
Uganda Mountain Gorillas in one day, so they schedule and plan for two days of
Gorilla Trekking safari in Uganda. Never have we had someone disappointed with their encounter with the gentle and majestic Mountain Gorillas of Uganda. There are some restrictions to visiting the Uganda Mountain Gorillas: No flu, coughs or colds, not diarrhea problems, reasonably fit, and a minimum age of 15. To some of the cost of a
Gorilla permit to see the Mountain Gorillas may restrict them from a budgetary viewpoint. The cost of one permit is 550 USD. The same cost applies to the

other two countries where Mountain Gorillas are found. Uganda just announced a twice a year off -season price reduction to 350 USD per person for non-residents and foreign residence living in Uganda it is only 250 USD per person-quite a savings. The
Uganda climate varies - Uganda is wet most of the year, with dry periods from June to August. It can be a scorching 30 degrees Celsius, or a chilly 9 degrees Celsius, depending on the weather. If you go
gorilla tracking safari to Uganda, be sure to bring a sweater, at least 2.5 liters of water, long-sleeved t-shirt/trousers, a hat, rain-clothing and decent hiking boots. The tracking takes you through the dense rainforest, where you go up and down steep hills, often with no visible path. If it rains, it will be extremely muddy, if it's dry and the sun is out, you will need a lot of water. Bring insect repellant for the mosquitoes, and consult your doctor for vaccinations and malaria-pills. Getting into Bwindi Impenetrable National Park requires a permit - the best place to get that is from the
Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). They have an office in
Kampala,
Uganda Tour operators can also make reservations, but you only pay on arrival. There is no point in

going to Bwindi without a permit, as you will be refused entrance. The best way to get there is to get a bus from Kampala - the daily Post Bus takes about 8 hours from Kampala to
Kabale, a nearby city with several hotels and hostels. From there you can arrange private transportation, for which you have to reserve another day of travel - leave early in the morning; you'll need to get transpiration to Butogota, and from there to Buhoma, where hotels are available only a short walk from the starting point of the UWA gorilla tracking. The roads in Uganda are bad - you will redefine your idea of what is a 'good road' after a
safari travel to Uganda. Paved roads are few and far between. If you can
rent a car, be prepared for a bumpy ride (and make sure you have a spare). You can hire a ride on a 'bodaboda' - a motorcycle with a passenger seat, but beware that many (fatal) traffic accidents involve bodabodas. Gorilla tracking - the only option available, here. It is expensive ($500 in 2008, but rumored to go up to $1000 in 2009 and $2000 later on). Still, it is worth it. There are three groups of Uganda gorilla's, with group H being the largest.
Uganda Tracking Gorillas can take from anywhere between 15 minutes to a full

day, depending on where the Uganda gorillas are. They move often and far - one group of tourists can be back at the UWA camp within two hours on one day, while they next day,
trekking Uganda Gorilla the same group of gorillas can keep you walking until night falls. There is no way to say how easy or difficult it will be - elderly people should carefully consider how fit they are and how long they are willing to hike
and climb: paths can be so steep you have to hold on to bushes and grass to prevent you from slipping, and climbing a hill can require hands and feet. There are no 'exits' while trekking, no shortcuts back home. Beware that Uganda Gorilla refunds are only given in extraordinary circumstances, and are only partial refunds. Registration for
trekking gorilla safari starts at 8.30 am, briefing is at 9. The
Uganda Gorilla trackers leave before that, and will communicate with your gorilla guides to let them know if and where they have found the gorillas. After getting there, you will have a maximum of 1 hour near the gorillas. You can get up to several meters of them, but you can be instructed to move further away should the gorillas get restless. Considering the terrain, it is not always possible to get

this close, so bring a camera with a zoom lens and remember the use of flash is not allowed. While in the rainforest, you are also asked to keep your voices down.
Should you be ill or have a cold, do remember that you may be refused participation. Since Uganda gorillas are genetically so close to humans, they are susceptible to many of the same diseases. As there are only about 700 mountain gorillas left in the world, their safety comes first. If you are planning a
Uganda family travel vacation, consider talking to a
